Rory McIlroy has gone through a lot of changes in 2013 – he switched equipment to Nike Golf, changed management companies, had several lawsuits, got engaged to Caroline Wozniacki and even set up his own charitable foundation, the Rory Foundation. Giving back is a huge part of the PGA Tour and the lifestyle of Tour professionals. On December 24th, 2013, Rory paid a Christmas visit to the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children’s Daisy Lodge building near Newcastle Co. Down. He’s also had his Six Bags initiative where his golf bag from six separate tournaments was auctioned off for six separate charities and with his sponsor, Omega, they even auctioned off an Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M “Golf,” featuring Rory’s signature metallised on the inner surface of the sapphire crystal caseback.
It’s been an interesting year in 2013 for Rory McIlroy and probably one that was a bit disappointing for him. He fell from number 1 in the world to number 6 but did end 2013 on a high note by winning the Australian Open, chasing down Adam Scott and winning by one shot. Since his first Major championship victory, Rory has been on a one major per year pace, but with no Major championship victories in 2013, he’s set his goal high for 2014 and aiming to win two Majors this year! In his last six worldwide starts, Rory’s had five finishes of 11th – hopefully he’ll continue that trend as his 2014 campaign beings January 16-19 at the European Tour’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship! Good luck, Rors!
