After a marathon of a Saturday in the 2013 Presidents Cup at Muirfield Village, the Americans were leading the International team by a score of 14-8 going into Sunday’s single matches. Due to the downpour all weekend, the final Foursome matches were actually completed Sunday morning. But with the 14-8 lead, the American team only needed four more points to clinch the Presidents Cup!
Just like the 2012 Ryder Cup, the Americans went into the single matches with the lead. But the Americans were sure hoping for a different result this time around as the European team made an incredible comeback on the final day! The International team were fighting hard all day, winning six of the first nine singles matches on Sunday. But it was none other than Tiger Woods who two-putted the 18th green to gain the 18th point for the Americans to clinch the Presidents Cup! With this loss, the International team’s 15 year drought in the event continues. Earlier in the week, International team member Adam Scott stated that the International team needed to win to bring credibility to the event. It was not meant to be and one has to wonder if the same results would occur for the inaugural EurAsia Cup in 2014!
