Taylormade announced the latest member of their “Ghost Spider” series putter models with the Ghost Spider Si, a high MOI counterbalanced putter. It features a large 380-gram head with a 15 inch, 130-gram counterbalanced grip to promote stability, forgiveness, control and feel.
According to Taylormade, the MOI in traditional blade and mallet putter ranges from 3500-4500. The Ghost Spide Si has a MOI of more than 6000 which makes the putter head more resistant to twisting at impact – this protects ball speed and distance control on off-center hits. The heavier grip is designed to counterbalance the head to increase the MOI of the entire club which makes the putter 50% more stable and much easier to keep the clubhead on path. This is what Taylormade calls “Stroke Stability.” The PureRoll Surlyn insert promotes a soft-yet-solid feel and a smooth roll straight off the face.
The Spider Si putter will come in lenghts of 35 and 38 inches – the 38-inch length is engineered for players who normally play a 35-inch length while the 35-inch model is built for the player who favors a 33-inch length – and has a white head for alignment clarity. The Ghost Spider Si debuted at the Humana CHallenge and is already in the bag of Rory Sabbatini, Fred Funk, Retief Goosen and Lucas Glover. Justin Rose even used a counterbalanced Ghost Spider Blade putter to win the 2013 US Open last year at Merion Golf Club! The Ghost Spider Si will be available on March 14, 2014 at $199.
