Weather delays have affected the PGA Tour all season and this week at the Presidents Cup at Muirfield Village is no exception. A rain delay Friday afternoon pushed matches into the evening, where darkness impeded the ability to complete the matches therefore, Saturday was a marathon of golf for both Team USA and Team International. In addition to completing their Friday foursome early Saturday morning, players would then also have to take part in the Saturday round of matches – morning fourball and then afternoon foursomes! Roughly 12 hours of golf for these players! However, for the second straight day, a rain delay kept the matches from finishing. There is work needed to drain the saturated golf course, so four matches will resume Sunday morning, followed by the 12 Sunday singles matches. Currently, Team USA leads 11.5 to 6.5 over Team International.
But with all this golfing action, we were given a chance to watch some of the best players in the world play some awesome golf, especially this second shot by Tiger Woods on the Par-5 15th hole – he hit a 5 wood 238 yards, up hill to 3 feet for a tap in eagle, just take a look at this amazing shot in the video above! Another interesting shot we saw was this attempt by Hunter Mahan in the video below – he gained negative yardage! We also got to see Jason Dufner’s amazing iron game, as he heated up and routinely stuck his irons to give playing partner Zach Johnson tap in putts. Although they were 2 down early in the match, Johnson and Dufner won six of eight holes through a stretch of the golf course for a 4-and-3 win over Richard Strene and Marc Leishman, the only foursome match to finish on Saturday.
It should be a great finishing day of golf tomorrow although Team USA may have an advantage though, with a 5-1-3 advantage in Sunday singles at the Presidents Cup. All players should be prepared for another marathon day of golf, we know Tiger will, especially with Matt Kuchar dropping a line like this – “This guy’s a horse, holy cow! He played some incredible golf today!” They’re also 3-0 so far this week as a team – not surprising as Tiger is a five time champion at Muirfield Village and Kuchar won earlier this year as well. They both have low stroke averages at Muirfield Village and definitely feel comfortable playing this golf course! However, they are currently 2 down to Ernie Els and Brendon de Jonge in their Saturday afternoon foursome match.
