It’s 2014 and the latest equipment release from one of golf’s biggest manufacturers is among us. We’ve already seen the release of the Callaway Big Bertha Drivers and X2 Hot line of equipment, Taylormade Tour Preferred irons, Speedblade irons and the new SLDR 430 driver as well as the new Cobra BiO Cell drivers. Today, Ping Golf announced the i25 line of equipment for 2014, which will be available on February 14.
Ping i25 driver
This new driver is a multi-material driver that helps reduce spin while increasing launch angle for ideal launch conditions to optimise distance and accuracy – you’ve probably heard that before! A titanium body is joined to a variable-thickness titanium face and the high-density tungsten sole weights lower the CG to reduce spin for a flatter ball flight and a landing angle that maximizes roll out. These weights are strategically placed to increase MOI, which means mishits will go straighter. The i25 driver also features Trajectory Tuning technology – standard lofts are adjustable by +/- 1 or 2 degrees.
The industry-first PWR (Performance, Weighting, Responsiveness) shaft family will offer unique weights (55g, 65g, 75g) and stiffness profiles without altering swing weights, so you’ll be able to find different shafts of different weights in the same flex to allow players to find the feel they’re looking for. Subtle “racing stripes” are also featured on the crown for a visual cue to help the player aim the club face accurate and align one’s body to the target.
Ping i25 fairway woods
The i25 fairway woods is very similar to the driver, offering the same PWR shafts, Trajectory Tuning technology, tungsten weights and racing stripes. The fairway woods offer a compact design that PING with a tall face and internal weighting designed to help boost MOI.
Ping i25 hybrids
The i25 hybrids are built in a traditional hybrid shape with some iron-like features including less bulge and roll for improved workability. The narrow head profile and more squared off toe is designed for better turf interaction and more solid ball contact from all lies. A more forward hosel axis versus traditional hybrids optimizes distance by launching shots higher and spin lower. The line of hybrids also feature a progressive CG design that optimizes launch for all lofts for maximum distance. The hybrid shafts also include the PWR shafts.
Ping i25 irons
Finally, the new i25 irons follow on the success of the i20 irons to bridge the gap between a players iron, like the Ping S55 irons, and a game improvement iron. The i25 irons feature progressive forgiveness features including face thickness, blade length and stability on off-center hits as the set moves toward the longer irons. Stabilizing bars are used in these 17-4 cast stainless steel cavity-back heads. On the long irons, the clubhead is a little larger and the bars are thinner to enhance the way the face deflects at impact for more ball speed. The middle and short irons feature more compact shapes with slightly thicker stabilizing bars to control spin and trajectory. Finally, tungsten in the toe of each iron is designed to improve forgiveness and optimize the center of gravity.
