Gary Player has won 9 Major Championships in his golf career, with three of them being the Open Championship. Gary Player won his first Open Championship in 1959, which was hosted at Muirfield Golf Links, as well as winning again in 1968 and 1974. Muirfield has a special place in Mr. Player’s heart and it definitely fits his game as he finished three times in the top 6 at Muirfield.
Taking time out of this busy schedule, such as posing for ESPN’s the Body Issue, Gary Player sat down with the Open and reflects on what it means to be an Open Champion! He gives his insight on the challenges that players will face at Muirfield and he truly feels that the Open is the most important tournament, not only testing a player’s skills but also one’s makeup and character!
