Nike Mod Putters

Nike Method Mod 90

Nike Golf has released photos of their new “Mod” putters, short for “modern classics,” and inspired by some of the most popular putter styles over the past four decades. David Franklin, Nike’s master model maker for putters, said the inspiration for this putter line came from the automotive industry where companies such as Dodge and Chevrolet are releasing retro-styled muscle cars with modern technology and interiors.

The four Nike Mod putters that will be offered include the MOD-00, a classic mallet shape, face-balanced putter; the MOD-30, a heel-toe blade (Anser-style) that most golfers will be accustomed to; the MOD-60, a Mid-mallet putter; and the MOD-90, a blade putter in the style of the old bulls eye putters.

The numbers behind the “Mod” name represent the amount of toe hang the putter has to the ground – the Mod 90 has a 90-degree toe hang (toe is perpendicular to the ground); the Mod 00 has a 00-degree toe hang (face balanced); Mod 30 has a 30-degree toe hang; and the Mod 60 has a 60-degree toe hang. All four putters use Nike Golf’s Polymetal groove technology (Method) to increase the moment of inertia (MOI) and to promote a better roll. In this way, similar to the automotive industry, Nike Golf takes classic designs and incorporates modern technology for performance.

Each model is 100 percent milled from a block of 303 stainless steel and has a “silver satin chrome” finish. Each Mod putter has two weight ports, which are not removable, but can be customized to make the putter head heavier or lighter through Nike Golf’s custom department. This line of putter will be offered in addition to the current Nike Golf Method, Method Core Weighted and Midnight Method putters. The Mod line of putters will be available on November 1, 2013 and will retail for CDN $299. Take a look at up close photos of each model below!
