Lydia Ko is a teenage sensation from New Zealand in the game of golf. A few weeks ago, Lydia announced that she would turn professional in a creative video with her good friend Israel Dagg of the All Blacks! Lydia has already won a few professional tournaments and we were fortunate to witness her victory at the 2012 CN Canadian Open! Due to her amateur status, Lydia was not able to collect any prize money, which totals to approximately $1.2 million USD!
This past weekend, in her second tournament as a professional, Lydia came from three shots behind So Yeon Ryu early in the round to claim her first professional victory by three shots, taking home the trophy for the Swinging Skirts World Ladies Masters Tournament in Taipei, Taiwan! The Swinging Skirts World Ladies Masters Tournament is a co-sanctioned event on the Taiwan LPGA and Korean LPGA tours and marks the fifth professional victory for Lydia. But this victory at the Linkou Miramar Golf & Country Club will be the first victory where Lydia would collect on the prize money, $150,000 USD to be exact! Lydia is definitely a special talent and the next time that we’ll see her is at the 2014 LPGA season opener, the Pure Silk Bahamas Classic, Jan. 23-26.
