Lydia Ko is probably a name you’ve heard of before – the 16 year old from New Zealand is already a two-time winner on the LPGA Tour (2012 CN Canadian Women’s Open and 2013 CN Canadian Women’s Open) and even contended at the Evian Championship last month. She has also won the New Zealand Women’s Open in 2012. With so much success at such an early age, Ko has decided to turn professional and has asked the LPGA Tour to waive its age limit.
Ko has filed a petition to the LPGA Tour asking them to waive its minimum age requirement of 18. The only other time such a petition was granted was for Lexi Thompson, who turned pro in 2010 at the age of 15. However, the next even Ko would play in (the LPGA Titleholders in November) will be her first official event as a professional. If she was professional, Ko would have earned nearly $1 million this year alone!
