J.R. Smith: Golf Is A Way of Life

JR Smith New York Knicks NBA Golf

When professional athletes are honing their crafts or taking part in their own regular seasons, you can often times find them out on a golf course. We’ve seen many other professional athletes playing golf including NBA players (Chris Paul, Stephen Curry, Michael Jordan, LeBron James), NHL players (T.J. Oshie, P.K. Subban) and even NFL players, including Seattle Seahawk Richard Sherman and Tony Romo.

One of the most avid golfers from the NBA is J.R. Smith of the New York Knicks. He fell in love with the game five years ago and hasn’t looked back since. He’s been a regular at PGA TOUR events this past summer, even taking over the Tour’s twitter account during The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. He’s only ever had two lessons and currently averages about 310 yards off the tee and is a 13 handicap (check out his swing above!).

He is also great friends with Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Keegan Bradley, who recently joined Jordan brand. Recently, Bleacher Report caught up with J.R. during his eighth annual Youth Foundation Classic at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Lakewood Township, New Jersey, which provides support and scholarships for kids through sports and education. Make sure to visit their webpage and read the full interview and find out how golf has influenced the life of J.R. Smith!
