You may have heard of the Gary Player Invitational series – it is a set of golfing events hosted by Gary Player himself in cities all over the world as a fundraising campaign for local charities. In 2013, the Gary Player Invitational will be held in four different countries – the USA, England, China and South Africa!
The USA series was held on April 14 and 15 at the Champions Retreat in Augusta, Georgia (made up of three 9-hole courses designed by Player, Nicklaus and Palmer) in support of underprivileged children’s education. In the video above, you’ll get a behind the scenes look at the England series, held at Wentworth in Surrey on July 22, 2013. Again, proceeds went to children’s charities in the area. Celebrities, golf pros and other athletes joined Player for a pro-am tournament as well as some lessons and stories from Player himself!
The next leg of the Gary Player Invitational series will be held in Shanghai, China at Shanghai Links on November 4 – 5 with proceeds benefiting the Yunnan Orphans whose lives have been hit hardest by AIDS. The last series will be held at The Lost City Golf Course & The Palace Hotel in Sun City, South Africa on November 14 – 17, 2013. It will bring together professional golfers from the PGA & Champions Tours, celebrities and leading businessmen from around the world to raise money in effort to support children’s charities!
