History seems to thrive at Merion Golf Club, from Bobby Jones grand slam to Ben Hogan’s 1950 US Open win and most recently, Justin Rose’s first ever Major Championship win. But history was also made by Shawn Stefani on the 17th hole during the final round of the US Open at Merion. Stefani has become the first golfer to make a hole-in-one at any US Open at Merion, which has previously hosted four. He used a 4-iron on the 213-yard, par-3 hole and bounced a shot out of the left rough. The ball then rolled nearly 50 feet toward the pin before it fell into the cup – watch the video above, his reaction is priceless!
And in case you’re wondering, he ended up shooting a 1-under 69 in the final round. Stefani also signed his glove and a sorecard to donate to the USGA Museum, though he declined a request to give up the ball!
