Henrik Stenson: FedEx Cup and Race to Dubai

Henrik Stenson Race to Dubai

Henrik Stenson is one of the best players in the game right now and has really had an amazing 2013 season. The two slumps in his career is well documented, dropping from World Number 73 to 621, then up to World Number 4 before falling to 230th. His game really started to pick up in March of this year where he finished second at the Shell Houston Open. He then finished 5th at The Players Championship, 3rd at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, 2nd at The Open Championship at Muirfield, 2nd at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and 3rd in the PGA Championship. His two wins during the FedEx Cup Playoffs (Deutsche Bank and TOUR Championship) was enough for him to capture the FedEx Cup and the $10 million bonus!

We’ve seen Luke Donald and Rory McIlroy win the money titles on the PGA Tour and European Tour in the same calendar year, but this weekend, Henrik Stenson made history of his own! He won the European Tour’s season ending DP World Golf Tour Championship and the Race to Dubai, becoming the first golfe to win the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup and European Tour’s Race to Dubai in the same season. Stenson shot an 8-under par 64 in the final round to heed off Ian Poulter, who was hot on his tail since the Turkish Airlines Open. Perhaps it’s due to the friendly bet they have going on between each other – whoever wins the Race to Dubai will be served drinks by the other!

It is truly an awesome feat that Stenson has achieved – “To achieve the double, double if you like in winning the DP World Tour Championship and the Race to Dubai on top of winning the PGA Tour Championship to capture the FedEx Cup takes some beating, I guess,” Stenson said. Hopefully, we see this strong play continue into the 2014 PGA Tour season and see Stenson win a Major championship soon – one thing’s for sure though, his trophy case at home is probably going to need to get bigger! It’s definitely an exciting time in golf right now with Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott and Henrik Stenson playing at such high levels.
