This week, the European Tour will make two stops as South Africa will play host to the Nedbank Golf Challenge and Hong Kong will be hosting the Hong Kong Open! With Tiger Wood’s tournament, the Northwestern Mutual World Challenge held in the same week as the Hong Kong Open, the field has gotten a lot thinner, with Rory McIlroy and Ian Poulter opting to play in North America instead. However, defending champion Miguel Angel Jimenez will be back to defend his title! Teenage sensation Guan TianLang, who you may remember from last year’s Masters, will also be in the field!
The Hong Kong Open also provides an opportunity to announce Thongchai Jaidee and Miguel Angel Jimenez as playing captains for the inaugural EurAsia Cup in 2014! The EurAsia Cup will be held from March 28, 2014 to March 30, 2014 at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club in Kuala Lumpur. The EurAsia Cup’s format will be a Ryder Cup-styled matchplay golf and one of Europe’s biggest star, Graeme McDowell, has already qualified for the 10-man EurAsia team with final position in the 2013 Race to Dubai! He will be joined by three other automatic qualifiers, Jamie Donaldson, Victor Dubuisson and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño! Although the first few years of the EurAsia Cup may be more like the President’s Cup than the Ryder Cup, with the growth of golf in Asia, especially China, we are betting this will be a competitive rivalry in no time!
