Course of the Week: Waskesiu Golf Club

We’re continuing our Course of the Week feature this week in Saskatchewan. Waskesiu Golf Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Western Canada and remains in much of its original layout – it is an 18-hole course playing just over 6300 yards from the rear tees. It is located by Waskesiu Lake inside Prince Albert National Park.

The golf course was built in 1930 and is a Stanley Thompson design, taking maximum advantage of the undulating forest covered terrain. While you play your round here, you may even have some visitors by the abundant wildlife in the area, giving golfers much more than a golf experience. Although it is only 6300 yards, don’t let the length fool you. The course requires utmost precision. The tight, tree-lined fairways offer some dramatic contours (almost no level lies!) that will require creativity and imagination to hit your targets!

The above photo was taken this past December featuring hole 1. The weather in Saskatchewan is known to be extreme during the winters and it reminds us of this great winter golf video by NonfairwayGolf!
