We’ve seen equipment announcements from Taylormade (introducing the JetSpeed) and Callaway (introducing the X2 Hot) over the past couple of days and Cobra is joining the party with the announcement of their new BiO Cell and BiO Cell+ drivers, successors of their AMP (Advanced Material Placement) Cell drivers.

The 460CC BiO Cell driver takes their AMP design and improves on it for 2014. The BiO Cell driver has an even thinner crown, shaving a few more grams from the top of the club and created a weight-reducing technology that resembles a honeycomb (the BiO Cell). It is made of all titanium, features adjustability and available in 5 different colours. You can adjust the BiO Cell driver to eight different settings (MyFly8) to maximize distance and manage your trajectory. Loft settings include: 9.0° / 9.5°, 9.5°D / 10.5° / 10.5°D / 11.5° / 11.5°D / 12.0°. The BiO Cell technology is also combined with E9 Face Technology which removes weight from the face and repositions it lower and towards the back heel to deliver a higher Motion of Inertia (MOI) and slight draw bias shots. This provides a larger effective Sweet Zone and longer, straighter drives on off-centre hits.

For players that have too much spin on their drives, Cobra is introducing the BiO Cell+ driver with advanced multi-material construction and MyFly8 adjustable loft technology to maximize the club for your swing. The MyFly8 adjustable hosel also offers a range of loft settings: 8.0° / 8.5° / 8.5°D / 9.5° / 9.5°D / 10.5° / 10.5°D / 11.0°. Similar to the BiO Cell driver, the E9 Face Technology has been utilized to remove weight from the face and reposition it lower and more towards the heel for more forgiveness on mishits and off centre hits. The multi-material construction features a Venollum alloy crown which reduces weight to deliver an even lower Centre of Gravity, providing higher ball flights with lower back spin for longer distances. The BiO Cell+ is a 440CC head with a one-half inch shorter shaft compared to the BiO Cell (45.25 inches vs. 45.75 inches).

Cobra BiO Cell Hybrids

Similar to the drivers, the BiO Cell fairway woods and hybrids also include the same MyFly8 and E9 Face technology. They also feature a high strength, forged thin, shallow steel insert for more face flex to result in faster ball speeds for longer distances and a higher trajectory. Of course, the BiO Cell technology is also utilized to position even more weight to the heel.

Cobra BiO Cell Irons

The BiO Cell Irons might be the most aggressive looking club in this new line from Cobra. Again, BiO Cell and E9 Face technology is featured to provide more distance and extreme forgiveness. These multi-material constructed irons have a premium undercut deep into the soles. This gives players the largest unsupported face of any Cobra iron, creating more face flex at impact for increased ball speed and extreme distance. Long and mid irons (3i – 7i) feature two 10-gram tungsten weights in the heel and toe to keep the club stable on mishits and for even more forgiveness, whereas the short irons (8i – GW) have tungsten centered behind the hitting area for added distance, feel and workability. The lofts are a bit stronger on these irons though, with the PW starting at 45*.

Rickie Fowler with the Cobra BiO Cell+ driver

Cobra is definitely one of the flashiest and most colourful companies in golf right now. As expected from a company that sponsors Rickie Fowler, Ian Poulter and Lexi Thompson. You’ll get to select your BiO Cell and BiO Cell+ driver in 5 different colours and will definitely stand out on the course!
