2013 Champion Golfer of the Year: Phil Mickelson

What a great two weeks it has been for Phil Mickelson! A family summer vacation to Scotland has treated Phil quite well as he took home two trophies, winning the Scottish Open last week and also becoming the Champion Golfer of the Year by winning the Open Championship at Muirfield! From thinking he would never have the shots and the complete game to win an Open Championship, Phil has now won two weeks in a row on a true links course. If Phil doesn’t take home the 2014 US Open next year at Pinehurst, we are calling it now, Phil will complete his career grand slam at the links styled Chambers Bay in the 2015 US Open!

All of the United Kingdom was hoping that another Brit would be victorious this weekend. After Justin Rose took home the US Open at Merion and Andy Murray winning the Wimbledon, everyone in the UK was hopeful to see another Brit lifting the Claret Jug! But it was not meant to be as Lee Westwood once again finished a disappointing T3. And while Ian Poulter prepared very well for the Open and had a stretch of an eagle and 3 birdies during his final round, it was not enough to overcome Phil’s final round of 5-under 66! This was definitely a tournament that Phil took by the horns and won outright! What a round. Congrats Phil!
