Callaway Golf has been busy during the past couple of months, signing some of golf’s biggest names to join Team Callaway. 2013 FedEx Cup and Race to Dubai Champion Henrik Stenson, Harris English, Pat Perez, Matteo Manassero and Yani Tseng are a few names to join Team Callaway in the 2014 season. Throughout the past couple of years, the company has been re-branding itself and getting younger – this is really shown by their most recent signing of teen sensation, Lydia Ko.
Lydia Ko turned professional a couple of months ago through a YouTube video filmed with All Blacks star, Israel Dagg! She has already had a very distinguished amateur career becoming the youngest ever player to win a professional event when she claimed the New South Wales Championship in 2012. She’s also won the CN Canadian Women’s Open twice, finished second at the Evian Masters (a Major Championship) and won at the New Zealand Women’s Open. She’s also claimed the US and Australian Amateur titles and was the world number one amateur for more than two years straight before turning professional. All these accomplishments and she is only 16 years old – the LPGA Tour even had to waive their 18 year old member age requirement for her!
The wins didn’t stop coming after turning professional though – in her second start, Lydia came from three shots behind to claim her first victory by three shots at the Swinging Skirts World Ladies Masters Tournament in Taipei, Taiwan. Lydia is definitely a leader when it comes to this new generation of golfing stars! In the Callaway Talks episode above, Harry Arnett sits down with Lydia as she talks about joining Team Callaway, her 2014 schedule and how she’s worked the new equipment into her bag!
