This past week, the PGA Tour visited Sea Island, GA for the RSM Classic where surprise winner Tyler Duncan captured his first PGA Tour victory. It was also the first tournament where Tour players could use the new Titleist Vokey SM8 wedges in competition. The public was also able to get a look at what the final version of the SM8 wedges look like.
As with previous seeding processes with Titleist irons and previous models such as the SM6 and the SM7, players will be able to give instant feedback on the final version of the wedge to the Titleist team onsite. This includes Bob Vokey and PGA Tour Wedge Rep Aaron Dill as well as director of wedge R&D Kevin Tassistro.
Although retail availability is a few months away, Tour players are making the most of the seeding process and as seen in Jonathan Wall’s tweet below, the new Titleist Vokey SM8s prove to be quite popular. There isn’t a lot of information out on the newest Vokey wedges right now, such as new technology, grind and grooves but given so many SM8s were put into play this past week, we can’t wait until more information is released!
Recapping @VokeyWedges first week for SM8 at the RSM:
– Tyler Duncan wins with SM8 (54.08, 58.04)
– 37 players combined to carry 102 SM8 wedges
– 102 SM8 were 24 more than all of the wedges from next closest brand.
– 287 Vokey were in play (48 percent of the field).
