Collin Morikawa Wins 2019 Barracuda Championship

The new wave of rising stars on the PGA Tour is among us. Just weeks after Matthew Wolff broke through for his first victory at the 3M Open, his friend and rival throughout college, Collin Morikawa has notched his first victory on the PGA Tour at the 2019 Barracuda Championship!

Collin was once the top ranked amateur in the world in May 2018. Since completing his senior year at the University of California, Berkley, and turning professional, Collin’s name has appeared on the first page of leaderboards numerous times. He made his debut at the RBC Canadian Open and finished tied 14th. He followed up that performance with a T2 finish at the 3M Open and a T4 finish at the John Deere Classic.

With all these strong finishes, it was only a matter of time before Collin broke through for his first victory. He did it in dramatic fashion too, making birdie on four of his last five holes to finish at +47 in the modified stableford tournament. Because it’s an alternate tournament (opposite the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational), Collin will not receive an automatic invite to the Masters. However, he has qualified for the Sentry Tournament of Champions, Players Championship and PGA Championship in 2020. He is also fully-exempt on the PGA Tour through the 2021 season.
