Nike x Stone Island Collaboration

Nike x Stone Island

The Open Championship is synonymous with some nasty weather as it is played on links courses by the sea. This year, the Open returns to Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland for the first time since 1951. Rory McIlroy, who grew up an hour away from Royal Portrush, still holds the course record of 11-under, 61. As Rory prepares to try and win his fifth career major title in his home country, he will be doing it in style with new apparel from a Nike and Stone Island collaboration.

There are two pieces in the collection between Nike and Stone Island, a jacket as well as a crew neck. The design of these two items are focused “on a pattern that optimizes range of motion through a swing and incorporates golf-specific utility pockets for balls, tees and gloves.” With Stone Island’s expertise in fabric innovation and Nike’s focus on athletic performance, this collaboration produces a product that’s equally fashionable and practical.

“The Nike x Stone Island collaboration is a perfect combination of style and performance. As an athlete, it’s important that my apparel can comfortably handle the conditions of any course at any time. This collection will allow me to be prepared for the unpredictable climate of Northern Ireland but also sport a look that appeals to my personal style.” – Rory McIlroy

The Nike x Stone Island Jacket will feature a military specification cotton satin outer face and bonded with a breathable, weather-resistant membrane. Breathability is enhanced using adaptive fibers, which also helps in locking in warmth and maintaining an optimal temperature for the golfer during his or her round. There are two colourways for the jacket (grey and blue) and three of the crew neck (grey, blue and yellow). This collection will debut at the Open Championship and will be released globally on July 25. The jacket’s expected MSRP is $900 USD while the MSRP for the crew neck is expected to be $450 USD.
