The Nike Golf Air Zoom Victory Tour shoe is the company’s flagship golf shoe for 2019. Rory McIlroy has worn a custom version of the shoe in two of his last three PGA TOUR starts, going back to the Genesis Open where he debuted a Hollywood-inspired colourway and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The custom trend continues this week at THE PLAYERS Championship where McIlroy will wear a a white and gold colourway, with the tournament’s logo on the heel.
Unlike the previous two custom editions, THE PLAYERS edition will be available to the general public – ten pairs will be available each day, Thursday to Sunday, for USD $200 through the on-site fan shop at TPC Sawgrass. McIlroy himself collaborated with Nike during the creation process of the Air Zoom Victory Tour, similar to how Tiger has collaborated for his signature golf shoes in the past.
The Air Zoom Victory Tour is highlighted by the company’s React foam, a technology initially introduced in mid-2017 in the basketball space to provide a “soft and springy” feel with ample stability that translates to the course. The Zoom Air unit in the forefoot offers additional cushioning when walking and swinging, while the Swoosh’s Flyweave material fine tunes support for specific movements. Waterproof premium leather gives the shoe a “classic” look while keeping moisture out at the same time. The words “All day comfort. Tee to green” is printed on the sockliner to reinforce the comfort technologies the shoe provides. The regular version of the shoe has been available since March 1st in white or black, so if you’re not on the grounds at TPC Sawgrass, you can still pick up a pair online!
