For the second time in three years, Dustin Johnson is the winner at the WGC-Mexico Championship. Held at Club de Golf Chapultepec, which is more than 7,800 feet above sea level, golf balls were flying longer and this magnified Dustin’s advantage. Unlike last year’s close contest between Phil Mickelson and Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson cruised to a 5-shot victory. This marks his 20th career PGA victory and his sixth WGC title.
Despite DJ’s length, it was his putting that kept momentum and held off Rory McIlroy’s charge. Rory shot a final round of 4-under 67 and with his solo second finish, this is his fourth straight top-5 finish at a PGA Tour event. Although he hasn’t broken through, Rory’s game seems to be in good shape and with the Masters not too far away, perhaps this will be the year that he will be able to complete his career grand slam.

Next week, the PGA Tour will start their Florida swing as players head to PGA National for the Honda Classic where Justin Thomas will defend his title. With this year’s change in schedule, some of the big events are a lot more compact and players will skip certain events to stay fresh. The most notable absentee next week will be Tiger Woods, who will skip the Honda Classic before playing at Bayhill in the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
