After numerous close calls at this tournament, Rickie Fowler is the champion at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. On a day with tough and wet conditions at TPC Scottsdale, Rickie was able to steady the ship after a few mistakes and claim his fifth career victory.
Rickie’s final round was certainly a rollercoaster as he made a double bogey on the par 4 fifth and a triple bogey on the eleventh hole. The latter was made much worse after Rickie took his drop and while the ball was at rest, it rolled into the water again, causing another penalty stroke. Despite the challenges, Rickie was able to turn in a final round of 3-over 74 to win the tournament by two shots.

This was probably not what Rickie envisioned when Tiger Woods texted him the night before to tell him to get the job done. Nevertheless, a win is a win and as we get closer to the year’s first major championship at Augusta, perhaps this will set Rickie in the right direction to capture his first major title.
