Matt Kuchar spent the last day or two addressing the non-story of him paying just $3,000 to his fill-in caddie after winning the Mayakoba Golf Classic in November. However, this did not affect his focus on the task at hand and on Sunday, Matt wrapped up his ninth PGA Tour victory at the 2019 Sony Open.
Heading into the final round, Matt Kuchar had a two-shot lead but that quickly evaporated as he made three bogeys in his first five holes. Matt was able to steadied the ship in the back 9, making four birdies in seven holes to capture the lead and maintain it for good. Aside from winning for the ninth time on the PGA Tour, this victory at the Sony Open is also Matt’s second victory of the season, having won the Mayakoba Golf Classic in the fall.
Next up, the PGA Tour starts their West coast swing as we look ahead to the 2019 Desert Classic (formerly known as the CareerBuilder Challenge) in La Quinta, California.
