Father’s Day Gift Guide 2018

unnamed

As the golf world gets ready for the second Major Championship of the year, the US Open at Shinnecock Hills, the rest of the world is preparing for Father’s Day weekend! Father’s Day is officially June 17, 2018 and if your dad is a golfer, then we have some great gift suggestions for you. Golf gear is constantly improving, from shoes, clubs and accessories, there always seems to be a new toy out there that a golfer needs in their life. Take a look at our 2018 Father’s Day Gift Guide in the list below – make sure to let us know what you think or what you’ve decided to get for your dad in the comments below!

Bushnell HYBRID

Bushnell is one of the leaders in laser rangefinder technology. The Bushnell HYBRID combines the latest in laser and GPS technologies to provide better data so golfers of all levels can make better decisions on the course. The HYBRID displays the lasered distances to the pin and GPS provided front and back yardage readings within the LCD. Additionally, Bushnell has incorporated exterior GPS front, center and back yardages to assist with correct club selections when golfers have cart path only or blind shots. PinSeeker with JOLT Technology is also included amongst the host of features offered in the new HYBRID.

MSRP: USD $399.99

Bushnell Phantom

An alternative to a laser rangefinder is the Bushnell Phantom. Similar to the NEO Ghost we’ve reviewed in the past, the Phantom comes preloaded with more than 36,000 golf courses and provides simple measurements to the front, center and back distances of the green – along with up to four hazard/layup distances per hole. The Phantom unveils “Bite Technology,” – equipped with a high powered magnet, the Phantom can easily attach to a cart bar or any metal surface, providing quick and easy yardage readings. Additional features include auto course and auto hole recognition, shot distance calculator and long battery life (play up to two rounds before charging).

MSRP: USD $99.99

A Club Fitting

Terry SLIDESHOW

Sending Dad off to a club fitting might be one of the best gifts you can give him this year. This will help him dial in his equipment and test all the new equipment on the market to see what best works for his swing. We’ve gone through several fittings before, most recently with Terry Visosky of Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club, and the results have changed our games. We highly recommend working with Terry, who has had numerous years of experience working at Abu Dhabi Golf Club and with the pros during the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. Alternatively, the Modern Golf experience in Toronto and Vancouver is another club fitting experience that golfers can try out.

As you go through your fitting, make sure to look into these clubs. For wedges, we are loving the Titleist Vokey SM7, especially with the brushed steel and jet black finishes. The TaylorMade Milled Grind wedge would also be worth considering – it’s even found it’s way into the bag of Tiger Woods, as well as some of the best in the world.

With irons, we love to test but seem to always go back to our Mizuno Golf irons – as they say, “Nothing Feels Like A Mizuno.” With that in mind, the new MP-18 line is beautiful and gives you incredible feel from Mizuno’s grain flow forging process and great workability. TaylorMade has also come out with some beautiful irons the past year with their P-series, especially the P730 irons. You can find out more about the P730, P790, P750 and P770 irons in our previous features. We do want to mention the Srixon series of irons though, particularly the Z965 and Z765 irons. They don’t get much attention, but they are some of the most beautiful and incredible feeling irons on the market – make sure to test these if you get the chance!

For woods and drivers, the new Callaway Rogue line improves on the previous year’s Epic collection. Jailbreak technology is now included in the fairway woods and hybrids, making these some of the hottest faced clubs on the market. We’re currently using the Epic collection and have added significant yardage compared to our previous gamers. Of course, you can’t forget about TaylorMade and their M3 and M4 line of woods and drivers either, especially with their new TwistFace technology in the drivers. Keep in mind that the most important thing is to test them out and see what works best for you!

Golf Apparel

We are sneakerheads here at Eighteen Under Par, so it’s no surprise that we would include some great golf kicks in our Father’s Day Gift Guide this year. The first being the Adidas Golf Special Edition Silver Boost line of golf shoes which include the TOUR360 Knit, TOUR360 and Crossknit 2.0. The Nike Lunar Control Vapor 2 are also a great option if Dad is one that likes the more “athletic” golf shoe. Both are some of the most comfortable golf shoes we’ve worn with great traction on the course.

If something more traditional is preferred, the FootJoy Tour S is a great option, especially when FootJoy is often considered the “#1 Shoe in Golf.” The Tour-S PowerPlate outsole provides an incredibly lightweight yet stable platform from which players efficiently transfer power throughout the golf swing.

For clothing, we recommend Galvin Green, particularly the Interface-1 Hybrid Range. Thr Interface-1 hybrid jacket range boasting exceptional levels of comfort and protection for serious golfers to perform their best throughout the season. Part of Galvin Green’s shell layer category, the Interface-1 is exceptionally soft and incorporates stretch elements to move freely with the body for ultimate range of motion. Utilizing innovative fabric technologies, Interface-1 jackets are completely windproof, water repellant and extremely breathable.

This concludes our 2018 Father’s Day Gift Guide – hopefully this list helps you with some ideas for your dad this year! If it didn’t and you still more some more suggestions or ideas, leave a comment or tweet us @18underpargolf and let’s chat! And if you have any suggestions for products you think dad would love and should be featured here on Eighteen Under Par, do let us know too!
