In the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide 2018, Bryson DeChambeau comes out on top after a two-playoff hole face-off against Kyle Stanley and Byeong Hun An on Sunday to capture his second PGA TOUR victory, his first coming at the 2017 John Deere Classic.
Because the threat of weather delays, the final round tee times were pushed up and players were in groups of three. Although the finish was intense, most of the week was focused on Tiger Woods and his continued improvement. Woods was fabulous for most of the week, especially from tee to green. He finished first in strokes gained in that category, and if he had putted at an average clip (0.0 strokes gained against the field), he probably would have won. He seemed to consistently be around the lead and threatened to put some low numbers together, but it was the putter that failed him this week. Short putts that use to be automatic were now burning the edges – something that he’ll have to clean up prior to the US Open at Shinnecock in a few weeks. You can bet that if Tiger continues this type of play that he’ll capture that 80th victory sooner rather than later.
