With Tiger Woods making his latest comeback, we thought we would look at the “Tiger Effect” that he has had on the sport of golf. Not only has he redefined modern golf, but he has also inspired the current crop of young stars on the PGA TOUR including Rory McIlroy, Jason Day and countless others. He’s also brought the sport of golf into the spotlight and made it “cool” for a generation of youth growing up and watching his dominance. They often say that Tiger Woods moves the needle in golf interest, but the reality may be that Tiger is the needle… and golf is just that much more interesting when he is involved, especially when he’s in contention! Tiger was one of the first that really put in time in the gym and trained like an athlete for golf. This helped him with his 79 victories and 14 Major Championships and also gave the current generation of golfers a blueprint of how they should approach the sport. One golfer in particular who we have watched evolve is Rory McIlroy – from being a chubby teenager who was blessed with talent, he’s put in the time in the gym to train and become one of the fittest players on TOUR. But with this training, players do need to be mindful of balancing their athleticism and not to over train, but to keep their speed and flexibility as well.
