The AT&T Byron Nelson Championship is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary and with that, the tournament will also mark it’s inaugural year at its new home, Trinity Forest Golf Club. Just 12 minutes south of downtown Dallas, Trinity Forest was designed by Bill Coore and 1983 AT&T Byron Nelson champion, Ben Crenshaw (Coore and Crenshaw, Inc.), who has designed some of modern golf’s most sought after golf destinations such as Cabot Cliffs, Streamsong and Sand Valley (which we will be visiting soon – stay tuned for a full review).

Taking inspiration from many of the great courses of Great Britain, this is a links style course, designed for lots of bump-and-run shots. The structure of the course combines strategic golf with beautiful artistry, and features dramatic green complexes and bunkering and tall native grasses on a rolling meadow. The standout feature that is sure to spark some discussion among the players is the, roughly, 36,000 square foot double green, shared by the 3rd and 11th holes.

Dallas native and Trinity Forest Golf Club member Jordan Spieth described the course as a “second-shot course where you’ve got to really think about where you’re leaving the ball.” He added, “Because everything looks very spacious… you can work different flights, but it’s very challenging if you’re not really focused on where the ball is being left.”

It was at the 2010 AT&T Byron Nelson Championship where Jordan Spieth made his first PGA TOUR debut as a 16-year-old amateur. He not only made the cut, but finished the tournament at T16. From then on, the rest is history, with Spieth becoming one of the new faces of the sport of golf. Spieth will be looking to win his first PGA TOUR event in his home state of Texas – he’ll definitely have an advantage being a local of the area and a Trinity Forest Golf Club member. Defending champion Billy Horschel and two-time winner Sergio Garcia as well as other big names will also be in the field this week.

At +500, Jordan Spieth is the betting favorite heading into the AT&T Byron Nelson, even after a tough week at the Players Championship. Spieth enjoys a home course advantage at Trinity Forest (he’s a founding member) and few others on the PGA Tour have even seen the course. He’s followed on the odds sheet by Matt Kuchar at +1200, and Sergio Garcia at +1400. If Spieth’s odds look good to you, there are lots of betting articles at this site to help guide you through the process of making and understanding a bet. If you think one of the other golfers will win, choose a site that offers a bonus when you sign up. That way, even if your pick doesn’t win, you still get some compensation.
