Jason Day captured his 12th PGA TOUR victory this past weekend at Quail Hollow for the Wells Fargo Championship. This is his second victory of the season after winning the 2018 Farmers Insurance Open earlier in the year at Torrey Pines. It wasn’t easy, but Day got it done, fighting through some wayward tee shots to shoot 2-under par 69 on Sunday and win by two strokes over Aaron Wise and Nick Watney. Day finished the tournament at 12-under par.
Day lost his three-shot lead on the back nine and never felt on top of his game all day. He missed more than half the fairways — including an ugly hook into the water on the par-4 14th — hit just eight greens in regulation and made four bogeys on the day. But he toughed it out on the final three holes at Quail Hollow nicknamed the “Green Mile,” playing them in 2 under. This included an amazing tee shot on the difficult 230-yard par-3 17th hole where his ball hit the pin and settled less than three feet away for an easy birdie. He was the only player to birdie the hole in the final round. Watch highlights from the final round in the video above. The PGA TOUR now heads to TPC Sawgrass for The PLAYERS Championship, which Day won in 2016.
