ESPN Films: A Mountain To Climb

Pratima Sherpa, who was raised in a maintenance shed behind the third hole of the Royal Nepal Golf Course, tries to become the first female golf professional in her country. She is the number 1 female golfer in Nepal and in this ESPN film, we get to discover her journey in the sport and her love of the game.

Pratima’s parents both work at Royal Nepal, making a combined $19 a month. When Pratima was 11, she was discovered by the Royal Nepal pro and given lessons. With no money for real clubs, her father went into the woods and carved a wooden club for her to use. Eventually, club members gave her a set of clubs, and she practiced constantly, eventually winning tournaments! The ESPN film highlights her hard work and perseverance. Recently, the film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, where Pratima was invited as a guest. From there, she had the chance to fly to Florida and meet her hero, Tiger Woods, at Medalist golf Club and even received a private lesson from him! At 18-years-old, Pratima will play in Nepali Q School this September to continue chasing her dreams.
