2018 Masters Champion: Patrick Reed

As with most years, the Masters Tournament was full of excitement. With a bunched leaderboard heading into Masters Sunday, it was “Captain America” Patrick Reed who came out on top to win the first major of his career. Heading into the final round, it seemed like a rematch of a 2014 Ryder Cup duel at Hazeltine. Patrick Reed led Rory McIlroy by 3 shots to start the final round however, Reed’s strongest challengers would come from further down the leaderboard.

After the first two holes, Rory McIlroy was only one shot back but that was as close as he got. Perhaps it was the pressure of completing the career grand slam at Augusta but he struggled all day to finish the round at 2-over 74.

It was up and down for most of the day for Patrick Reed and he had to play a very gritty round. When he looked up at the leaderboard, 2015 Masters Champion Jordan Spieth was making a charge on his way to shoot 64 in the final round. Rickie Fowler also gave it his best shot as he shot 67 to finish as the runner up, one shot behind Reed. This marks the fourth straight Masters that the champion was a first-time major winner. Next up, the US Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club!
