Tiger Woods’ ’97 Win at Augusta: Remembered

For the first time since 2015, Tiger Woods participated in tournament activities at Augusta National on Monday, playing a nine-hole practice round with Fred Couples and Justin Thomas and drawing rave reviews in the process. Woods, 42, who has won the Masters four times, has not played in the tournament since his tie for 17th in 2015. He has missed three of the previous four Masters due to back problems and has not played in a major championship since missing the cut at the 2015 PGA Championship.

His back injuries are well-documented and just last year, his return to professional golf was uncertain. As Woods said himself, he is a “walking miracle” and has put together some very exciting golf and great finishes over his last couple of starts, contending at both the Valspar Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. As he returns to Augusta this year, it’s hard not to look back at his historic first Green Jacket in 1997. In the videos above, hear from the players that played with Woods in ’97 as well as from Tiger himself as he reminiscences about his first Green Jacket.
