Bubba Watson added another trophy to his collection this past weekend by winning the 2018 WGC-Dell Match Play Championships and scorching the competition. This is Watson’s second victory of the year (and second in four starts), winning the 2018 Genesis Open in February, and his 11th PGA TOUR victory total (13 wins as as professional). The Dell Technologies Match Play is the second of four World Golf Championship events of 2018 and was contested at the Austin Country Club in Texas.
Bubba was able to play some “bubba golf” over the past couple of days, overpowering the golf course and often hitting drives well over 300-yards. In the semi-finals, he took on 2017 PGA Champion Justin Thomas, who won all five of his matches prior to facing Watson, and won 3&2. He took this strong play into the finals, defeating Kevin Kisner 7&6 in the final. With this win, Watson joins Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els as the only players with multiple major and WGC wins, having now added to his 2014 HSBC Champions title. This year’s Masters Tournament starts on April 5 and with Watson being a two-time winner at Augusta and playing well, it won’t be a surprise to see his name in contention.
