After Phil Mickelson won last week at the WGC-Mexico Championship, he joked that Tiger Woods would likely win the following week at the Valspar Championship because that’s what he’s done throughout his career – one up Phil Mickelson. He wasn’t too far off with his prediction as Woods was in contention throughout the week but ultimately finished second, one shot behind winner Paul Casey. Casey, 40, fired a six-under 65 on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort, safely negotiating the Snake Pit, to set the clubhouse target at 10-under par. Watch highlights from the final round in the video above.
It was a fantastic round of golf but Casey, but naturally, the entire golf world’s focus was on Tiger Woods. Every tournament he has played so far this year, he has shown improvement and increased confidence. Woods definitely draws larger crowds when it comes to golf, with the Valspar Championship having a higher television rating than three of the four Major Championships last year! He’ll be playing back-to-back weeks and tee it up at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill this week, where he has won eight times! Hopefully he keeps up this strong play of his throughout the year and we see him winning at least one tournament, hopefully a Major, soon!
