In the first FedEx Cup playoff event of the 2017 season, The Northern Trust Open went to extra holes as Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth went head to head in the final round of the Northern Trust Open. Starting the day, Jordan Spieth had a 3-shot lead. However, by the 10th hole, the two American stars were even after Dustin’s strong play and Jordan’s unfortunate double bogey on the 6th.
Their battle on the back-nine would lead to a playoff on the 18th hole where Johnson would clinch the victory with a 341-yard drive over a lake, leaving himself with 95 yards to the pin, which he stuck to 4 feet. Spieth on the otherhand drive the ball 301 yards and was left with a 6-iron into the green – one of the best examples of how Dustin’s length is such an advantage over many players. This would be Johnson’s fourth victory of the year, adding to his previous Genesis Open, WGC-Mexico Championship and WGC-Dell Match Play victories. He also jumps to number 1 in the Fedex Cup rankings – will he win it all this year?
