Henrik Stenson has had a rollercoaster of a career, but it all seemed to come together a few years ago. In 2014, he became the first player to win the FedEx Cup and Race to Dubai in the same year, pocketing $20 million in earnings for the year. Although he had a lot of success, he was still part of a group of “best players without a major.”
That was until last year, when him and Phil Mickelson put on a show for the ages with final round scores of 63 and 65 respectively. Henrik would eventually capture his first (and Sweden’s first) Major Championship in men’s golf! It’s been a long journey for Stenson, but this week, he’ll get to defend the Claret Jug as an Open Champion at Royal Birkdale. In the video above, hear from Stenson in this episode of Chronicles of an Champion Golfer as he shares his experience with his magical week last year.
