The PLAYERS Championship is often considered the “fifth” major in golf. It is held annually at TPC Sawgrass, just steps away from the headquarters of the PGA Tour in Ponte Vedra, Florida. It is their flagship tournament and features the strongest field in the game, with 48 of the world’s top 50 players in the field this year.
With the prize money in excess of $10 million, there is no denying the stature of the PLAYERS Championship in the game. In this past month’s episode of CNN Living Golf, Shane O’Donoghue talks with the new commissioner of the PGA Tour, Jay Monahan, about the importance of the tournament.
We also hear from Sergio Garcia, who captured his first major title recently at the 2017 Masters. In addition, 2016 US Open Champion Dustin Johnson talks about what it takes to win the US Open and what would be required to triumph in Erin Hills. Unfortunately for DJ, he did not make the cut at the 2017 US Open but it was another big hitter, Brooks Koepka, who broke through for his first major title.
