The Callaway Steelhead fairway woods were one of the most successful clubs of all time, combining its beautiful shape with unmatched versatility and playability. From the original Steelhead, its success led to the Steelhead Plus and the Steelhead III woods. Now, Callaway is bringing back the name with the Steelhead XR.
With the XR, Callaway has kept the club’s iconic shape but supercharged it with modern technology to promote more distance and more forgiveness. The Steelhead shape already promotes an easy launch with the club but this is now aided by the Modern Hawkeye Sole. In addition, Callaway’s next-generation Hyper Speed Face Cup helps with attaining faster ball speed and distance across the entire face, especially on mis-hits.
A J-36 Carbon Crown and a shorter hosel are also featured on the Steelhead HR for extreme forgiveness. By having a lightweight J-36 Carbon Crown, substantial weight is saved and repositioned in the perimeter for more forgiveness, making the club easier to launch as well as promoting lower spin and added power. With a shorter hosel, it makes the club more aesthetically appealing and frees up weight in the clubhead.
Last but not least, the Speed Step Technology in the Steelhead XR helps golfers with generating faster clubhead speed. This proprietary technology was developed with direct input from aerospace experts, who helped with improving the aerodynamic of the club for a faster swing speed and distance.
Despite all these technologies, Callaway has ensured that each golfer will be able to find the perfect club specification for their swings. A premium stock Mitsubishi Tensei CK shaft is offered with the Steelhead XR and it was “designed and engineered to delive the optimum balance of power and control.” There will also be a wide variety of loft options, including a 7-wood, 9-wood, and Heavenwood. “3+ (13.5°) and 4+ (16°) models are also available with flatter lies and more compact shapes to appeal to the better player.” If you’re in line for a new fairway wood, be sure to check out the new Callaway Steelhead XR, Iconic Versitility, Modern Power!
