Last week, the PGA TOUR was in Irving, Texas for the AT&T Byron Nelson Chapmionship, played at TPC Four Seasons Resort. Last year, we saw Sergio Garcia claim his second title in Irving while ending his four-year drought on TOUR. This year, it was Billy Horschel who played steady down the stretch to defeat Jason Day in a playoff to card his first win in nearly three years! The 2017 AT&T Byron Nelson is the final tournament in Irving and will move to the new links-style Forest Golf Club south of downtown Dallas next year.
After a tremendous 2014 season which saw Horschel win the FedEx Cup, he has struggled to keep that level of performance. Heading into the AT&T Byron Nelson, Horschel had missed four straight cuts, but found his touch last week for his first win since the 2014 TOUR Championship.
Following the win, he was visibly emotional, which was not a surprise. Horschel is one of the more fiery, passionate players on tour. Capturing his first win in nearly three years, you can expect emotions to be running high. But it was life off the course that made this particular victory extra sweet as his wife, Brittany, revealed her personal battle with alcoholism:
i would like to share why yesterday's win had some extra emotions for my hubby, @BillyHo_Golf xo pic.twitter.com/2yDyhm8kRR
