In the final round of the 2017 Shell Houston Open, Russell Henley made 10 birdies on his way to a 7-under 65 to win the tournament by three shots. This was Russell’s third career victory on the PGA Tour and with the win, he has earned a trip to Augusta to played in the Masters this week.
Starting the day, Russell was four-shots behind. With five birdies in his opening eight holes, Russell put himself in contention albeit a setback as he double-bogeyed the par-3 ninth hole. However, with another hot stretch from holes 13-15 and leader, Sung Kang, unable to keep up with Russell’s barrage of birdies, he took the lead for good on his way to capture the Shell Houston Open. In the last four years, Russell Henley is the third player to earn a trip to the Masters with a victory at the Houston Open.
