It’s always great to see a fellow Canadian win on the PGA TOUR – there are some very good, young Canadians on TOUR these days that are ready to win. A couple years ago, we saw Nick Taylor from our home province of BC win his first event at the Sanderson Farms Championship. This past weekend, we saw another BC boy capture his first PGA TOUR victory with Adam Hadwin winning the Valspar Championship.
Hadwin entered the final round at 14-under par and with a four-shot lead. He looked to be coasting to victory with a two-shot lead through 15 holes but he would hit his tee shot at the par-four 16th into the water to card a double bogey. At the same time, another young golfer in Patrick Cantlay (who’s returning from tragedy and injury) had caught fire and birdied four holes in a span of five holes between 10 and 14. They were both tied at 14-under par until Cantlay bogeyed the final hole with Hadwin making par to capture his first victory on TOUR. Not only did he win his first tournament, but he’ll also receive an invitation to The Masters and will also be getting married in a couple of weeks!
