Rickie Fowler captured his fourth PGA TOUR victory by four strokes this past weekend (and seventh win worldwide) at The Honda Classic 2017 at PGA National. His accurate driving helped him build a four-shot lead through 54 holes, but off the tee was where he had issues during the front nine on Sunday – he would shoot a two-over par, hitting just two fairways, with his lead dropping to just one shot at times. We were wondering if it would be the same story with Fowler – he has been unable to capitalize on any of his previous 54-hole leads, but today was different.
On his final nine holes of the tournament, Fowler dropped in clutch putts for birdie on holes 12, 13 and 16 and ended up with a round of 71 to finish at 12-under par, although he did bogey his last two holes. Morgan Hoffmann and Gary Woodland tied for second. He moves to 10th in the FedEx Cup standings and expected to rise to Number 9 in the Official Golf World Rankings. Seven of eight tournaments in 2017 have been won by players in their 20s, with an average age of 25.5.
“I started with a four-shot lead and I still won by four, so I didn’t play great, it wasn’t a pretty round, but we got the job done. A win’s a win.”

He was last year’s Web.com Tour Player of the Year and finished fourth at last week’s Genesis Open and also T4 at The Honda Classic. You can probably bet that he’ll notch one victory this season!
