Japan’s Hideki Matuyama is one of the young stars on the PGA Tour. At just 24 years old, Hideki has already won twice on the circuit, having won the 2014 Memorial Tournament and the 2016 Waste Management Phoenix Open. This past week, Hideki added to his resume as he became the first Asian to win a WGC (World Golf Championship) event at the WGC-HSBC Champions!
Going into the tournament at Sheshan International Golf Club, Hideki Matsuyama’s game was in fine form. He won the Japan Open Golf Championship in mid-October before finishing second to Justin Thomas at the CIMB Classic in Malaysia. His strong play continued in Shanghai as he cruised to a 7-shot victory at the WGC-HSBC Champions.
Although the field was filled with strong players who all made a run, including Open Champion Henrik Stenson and FedEx Cup Champion Rory McIlroy, Hideki simply played too well to be caught. In the video above, watch to see highlights of Hideki’s performance in Shanghai.
