BMW was the host of last week’s FedEx Cup Playoff event, the BMW Championship. Their company slogan in North America is “The Ultimate Driving Machine” – and it’s a slogan that holds true to the most recent winner of the tournament, Dustin Johnson. In the final round of the 2016 BMW Championship, Dustin Johnson and Paul Casey battled it out throughout the day, but it was Johnson who took control to win his 12th PGA TOUR victory.
It’s been a great year for Dustin Johnson so far, finally winning his first Major Championship at the US Open as well as the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Today, he added a third title to his season – the first time in his career he’s won more than twice in a season – which is also his third win in his last eight starts. With this win, he’s at the top of the FedEx Cup standings heading into East Lake for the TOUR Championship.
“I’ve got a lot of confidence in every part of my game – especially all the work I’ve put in on my wedges, which has really paid off this year – and this week a new putter that really worked,” said Johnson.
Of course he would have confidence in his game when he had statistics like this at Crooked Stick for the BMW Championship: first in the field in driving distance, first in putts per green, first in strokes gained off the tee, third in strokes gained tee to green, second in strokes gained putting. It added to a 72-hole score of 23-under par that included a course-record 63 in the second round and a five-under par 67 in a final round that featured six birdies and an eagle. Not bad, DJ… Not bad.
