After visiting the PING HQ in Arizona and speaking with Bob Vokey in Carlsbad, California, part two of this month’s CNN Living Golf takes us to France where we meet golf course architect, Tom Doak. In today’s world, golf course construction is often complicated by complex environmental and economic factors. However, Tom takes a minimalist approach, choosing to work with Mother Nature instead of against it.
Tom Doak built his career from the ground up, most notably working for the legendary Pete Dye in his early days. At the age of 27, Tom built his first golf course on his own. Today, his resume includes some of the best courses in the world, including Cape Kidnappers in New Zealand, Barnbougle Dunes Golf Links in Australia, Old MacDonald and Pacific Dunes at Bandon Dunes and the Blue Course at Streamsong Resort. Watch the video above to hear Tom Doak reflect back on his career and share his philosophy on golf course designs.
