The Major Championships of 2016 have wrapped up and what a season it was! For just the fifth time modern era, we have seen four first-time winners in the Majors, with latest being Jimmy Walker as he shot a bogey-free final round 3-under 67 to win the 2016 PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club.
Despite the numerous weather delays at Baltusrol, golf fans were treated with some great golf. Jimmy Walker was cool, calm and collected all week. Not only did Jimmy lead the tournament wire-to-wire but he played his last 28 holes at Baltusrol without a bogey. This made it very difficult for players chasing him, especially defending champion and world number 1, Jason Day.
Unfortunately, the weather delays prevented us from seeing a duel between Jimmy Walker and Jason Day in the final pairing as the PGA decided not to re-pair after 54 holes. However, Jason gave it his best shot on the 72nd hole with a laser 240-yard 2-iron to 15 feet, which he holed for eagle. That putt cut Jimmy’s lead to one and while Jimmy witnessed all of this on the fairway, he came up clutch and made par to secure his first Major title with a total score of 14-under par.
