The 145th Open Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club has begun. Before the tournament started, Golfing World got to chat with some of the game’s premier players including Shane Lowry, Darren Clarke, Matt Fitzpatrick, Jim Furyk and Patrick Reed.
Reed, who most remember for his “shhh” moment at the previous Ryder Cup, shot an opening round 66 to lead The Open at 5-under par. It didn’t last long as Phil Mickelson made a charge and is currently the leader by 3 strokes after shooting an 8-under par round of 63 (62 and a half, actually!), a course record! He is the first to shoot 63 at Royal Troon, 8th to shoot 63 at The Open and 26th to shoot 63 in a Major – so close to breaking the lowest scoring round ever at a Major Championship! How do you think Phil will do the rest of the week?
