Royal Troon Golf Club was founded in 1878 and has previously hosted the Open Championship eight times. The last six Open Champions at Royal Troon have all been Americans and it’ll be interesting to see if the trend continues this week.
With the Open returning to Royal Troon for the first time since 2004, Shane O’Donoghue and CNN Living Golf travels to the West coast of Scotland to explore the third Major of the year. Naturally, much of the focus of this segment is on the historic golf course.
From the tips, the course plays approximately 7,100 yards where scoring opportunities are mostly found on the front nine as the back nine usually plays hard into the wind. Royal Troon also features the smallest greens on the Open circuit, highlighted by its iconic Par 3, 8th hole, known as the Postage Stamp.
In the segment above, Shane O’Donoghue tours the Open Championship venue and checks off an item on his bucket list by playing the Postage Stamp. Think he employs the same strategy as Rory McIlroy? Watch to find out!
