For the first time in 165 starts, William McGirt is in the winner’s circle as he came out on top at the 2016 Memorial Tournament. This was McGirt’s first PGA Tour victory and it wasn’t easy as it took two extra playoff holes for him to beat out Jon Curran.
Conditions in the final round was difficult, with the wind blowing hard due to a storm threat. But McGirt was steady as he made 15 straight pars to close out his victory. His last victory was on a mini-tour in 2007, which won him $16,000. This victory at Jack’s place not only won William McGrit $1.53 million but also a three-year exemption on the PGA Tour as well as an exemption into the US Open at Oakmont in two weeks’ time.
